An ideal base for a wide range of year round activities including walking, climbing, caving, riding, mountain-biking, bird-watching, painting, photography or just plain relaxing. Originally built as a Wesleyan Chapel in 1845 (see history) and carefully renovated over the last ten years, this charming and well-equipped cottage is full of character. It has a stone flagged entrance hall, stairs gently curving to the first floor, oak floors, lime-washed walls, a large open-plan living area with beamed ceiling, stone and lime rendered fireplace with wood-burning stove. The kitchen is stone flagged with vaulted ceiling, original exposed beams and a hand crafted kitchen. The cottage has marvellous views all around, down the valley towards the famously pretty village of Muker with its 16th century church tower rising above the stone roofs and up towards Kisdon, Rogan's Seat and Muker Side. The countryside around is rich in wild-flower meadows, bubbling brooks (Straw Beck flows right opposite the cottage), rivers and waterfalls, ancient paths and tracks and an abundance of wildlife (and sheep!). The cottage is a two minute walk from the Village Shop and Tea Rooms, post office, craft shops (Swaledale Woollens and the Old School Gallery) and a friendly and cosy traditional pub serving good food and local ales - The Farmers Arms. Arngill is available for weekly lets throughout the year, and occasional short lets out of high season. |
